We are coming up on a meaningful anniversary this Sunday: 10 years after September 11, 2001. Churches all over the country will be holding special services in remembrance of those who lost their lives. Redwine will be having a reading and candle lighting in each of our services.
The choir is singing at the 11:00 service and will be sharing the Robert Lowry hymn, “Nothing But the Blood.” Living 1826-1899, Lowry was an American minister and prolific hymn writer, composing hymns that are still popular to this day, including “Shall We Gather at the River?” and “How Can I Keep from Singing?” Although it was written more than 100 years ago, “Nothing But the Blood” holds a timeless truth. Only Jesus can cleanse us and set us free from sin.
1. What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Chorus: Oh! Precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
2. For my pardon, this I see,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my cleansing, this my plea,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
(Repeat chorus)
3. Nothing can for sin atone,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
Naught of good that I have done,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
(Repeat chorus)
4. This is all my hope and peace,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
(Repeat chorus)
